Coach Peter McCormick runs a Track program at the Canada Games Centre and this is a perfect example of Special Olympics athletes training year-round. When people as us “when do the Special Olympics take place?” we do our best to educate them that it is happening every day. Provincial, National and World Games get more coverage, and they are both valuable and exciting, but Special Olympics is happening in a variety of sports in communities across Nova Scotia every day.
This particular group is a training squad and many will hope to qualify for Canada Games, or the Special Olympics Provincial Games. An important part of training is “learning to compete” and experiencing the pressures and exhilaration of competition. There were 280 of Nova Scotia’s best athletes competing at this recent indoor competition and Peter reports that our Special Olympics group was “amazing”!
Congratulations to coaches and team members … keep it going!
