SNOWSHOE Athletes DOMINATE BLOW ME DOWN
Floor Hockey – Floor hockey took the floor early this morning against a strong team from Saskatchewan, the boys fell to a tough 12-1 loss. There final game of the round robin play was against Midland Ontario. They were in for another tough game as they lost 6-2. Speaking with a couple of players after the round robin play wrapped up even though they weren’t able to come away with a victory their spirits are still high and are looking forward to their next game. The team is scheduled to play in the bronze medal game tomorrow morning starting at 8am.
Speed Skating – Speed Skaters had an amazing opportunity to do a clinic with Special Olympic Canada and special guest Catrina LeMay Doan, Canadian Olympic gold Medalist. All of the skaters really enjoyed the opportunity to sharpen their skills.
Curling – It was a wild day for the curling team from Nova Scotia. They entered the third game of their round robin play confident that they could get the job done. This looked to be the case until the final end of the game. The team from British Columbia made a stunning comeback that shocked everyone at the curling rink. This now meant that they were to play in the 2 vs 3 page playoff. In the playoff they played against the strong team from Ontario. It was like déjà vu, this match came down to the final end as well. However this match require an extra end to decide who would play for gold. Team Nova Scotia was able to confidently dominate the final end and score two points. The final score was 6-4. Team Nova Scotia has a big day tomorrow as they will be playing for the Gold medal at 8am.
Cross Country – The cross country skiers had a great day at Blow Me Down ski club. All three athletes were able to walk away with some hardware after the medal presentation this afternoon. James was able to snag two medals and Tim and Eileen both came away respectively with one medal each. James skied a tremendous 22:20 seconds in the 100m race taking home a gold medal and he backed that up by grabbing the silver medal in the 500m race. Eileen won a silver medal in the 100m with a 39.6 second race. After talking with her she was very happy with her result. Tim had a heart breaking moment near the finish line in his 500m race. As Tim approached the finish line a burst of wind came over the course and knocked Tim to the ground. Tim was able to recover in time to win the bronze medal. This wrapped up cross country for the week.
Snowshoe – The snowshoe racers had a great day on the track today. All of the racers competed valiantly and had a blast trying to stay warm in the freezing temperatures. The team competed in an array of event today. They competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and the 1600m. Daniel was our only competitor that ran in the 800m and the 1600m divisoning races today. Skyler was able to win the gold in his race today. The day belonged to Brianna, she secured two gold medals in the 200m and 400m events. The team takes back to the course tomorrow morning to finish up this week’s events. All of the snowshoers will be racing for medals tomorrow.
Figure Skating – Kaylie and Robert both wrapped up their winter games story with strong performance in the free skate today. Unfortunatly they did not place today. After speaking with both of the skaters from Nova Scotia they were very happy with their performances and said they had a great time at the games.
