Daily Update

Floor Hockey – The boys in white and blue took to the floor this morning for their final divisioning games. Jack Williams was able to bury his 41st career Floor Hockey Goal. They were able to secure their first win of the Winter Games with a 6-3 win over Team New Brunswick. As divisioning wrapped up Team Nova Scotia waited to find out where they would be seeded. Team Nova Scotia was placed in Group yellow along with Scarborough and Midland Ontario and Team Saskatchewan. They started their round robin play against a tough team from Scarborough, Ontario. Unfortunately Team Nova Scotia came up a short with a 6-0 loss to start the round robin play. The Floor Hockey team will have two games on Friday one at 9:15am against Team Saskatchewan and the other one at 2:15pm against Midland to wrap up round robin play.

Speed Skating – Speed skating wrapped today with more hardware. It was another exciting day at the rink, the stands were packed and the media was a buzz. Downtown Phil Brown started off the day with a GOLD medal performance, he skated a 2:22.696 in the 1000m. One of the cool stories of the day, Coach Emma and Cyril were able to keep it a secret that Phil won a gold medal. He was in shock when he went to receive his Gold medal. For a second day in a row, Abbey was able to take home another medal in the 222m skate. For a third day in a row our very own celebrity stole the show again. Not only did Robert Burchell squeak out a silver medal in the 222m race he grabbed the attention of the entire country today. TSN was looking for a story on speed skater and did they ever find one. Speaking with Burchell after his post-race press conference he couldn’t believe that he is actually going to be on television. Even though their competition wrapped up today they have a clinic with speed skating coaches from Special Olympic Canada.

Curling – After a tough day of divisioning yesterday, Team Nova Scotia came flying out of the gate with a magnificent 7-3 win over Team PEI. Team Nova Scotia fell behind early in the first few ends. They were able to put together a great 5th end and able to score 3 to put a strangle hold on the game. They didn’t look back from there and were able to finish smoothly with a wide margin victory. There second game of the day was against the Grimsby team from Ontario. The game had the same look and feel as the first one in the morning. They fell behind quickly 2-0 after 2 ends. However this is where it stopped, they score 7 in the next 3 ends to take control of the match. The final score against Team Grimsby was 10-2 for the good guys. Team Nova Scotia will start the day again at 10:30am against Ontario, Kingston.

Cross Country/Snowshoe – Due to the heavy rains and howling winds that pounded Blow Me Down over night and through the day, both teams had a well-deserved rest day.  Both group will be back at it bright and early tomorrow morning. Snowshoe will start their day at 9am with Daniel Martin running the 1600m divisoning. Cross Country will start their day with the 500m final at 11:15am.
