Announcing Team Nova Scotia for the 2026 Special Olympics Canada National Summer Games

We are thrilled to announce the athletes who will proudly represent Team Nova Scotia at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, from August 11–15, 2026.

A total of 80 athletes from across the province will compete in nine sports: athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer (co-ed and female), softball, and swimming. Supporting them on their journey to Alberta are 29 volunteer coaches and eight mission staff. We cannot forget about the additional 18 training coaches who will train with the athletes over the coming months.

The path to National Games began months ago, as athletes trained diligently to earn their spot at the 2025 Nova Scotia Provincial Summer Games, held July 24–27 at St. Francis Xavier University. These Provincial Games served as the official qualifiers for the 2026 National Games.

This year also marks an exciting milestone – for the first time ever, there will be an all-female soccer division at the Games. Representing Nova Scot will be a team of 13 athletes from across Nova Scotia, spanning from Cape Breton to Shelburne County, along with three coaches leading the way.

In the months ahead, Team Nova Scotia athletes will continue to train and prepare with their coaches and training coaches, building on their weekly local programs. Their focus will include skill  development, fitness, nutrition, and goal-setting — all leading up to an unforgettable competition on
the national stage.
